We may soon have to get rid of LiveLinux

Posted by livelinux on July 3, 2010 at 3:35 PM Comments comments (1)

As it says above, we may soon have to stop the LiveLinux project, because of lack of interest from the developers. There has been hardly any site activity thanks to that, and it is impossible for just me to create a whole linux. That's why we need your help. If you have some spare time, download Ubuntu 10.04 and then email [email protected] to start developing. YOU WILL NOT BE IGNORED!!!

The deadline is Saturday 10th July. If we do not get a good enough site activity or responses, I will remove LiveLinux along with its Facebook precence and email account. Got it? Good!

LiveLinux X1 dev. version 0.2.3

Posted by livelinux on April 11, 2010 at 12:24 PM Comments comments (0)

Today I am uploading 2 new files for development:

  • LiveLinux X1 0.2.1 64-bit (not much software)
  • LiveLinux X1 0.2.3 32-bit+software programs (e.g. OpenOffice, Mozilla)

These files are avaliable as *.iso files from the sourceforge page. You may need to create a sourceforge account, but hopefully you won't.

  1. If you do not have Windows 7, you need to download a image burning software. You will also need a High Capacity CD or a DVD and a CD/DVD burning drive.
  2. Using the program or using Windows 'Burn a disc image' follow the steps to burn the iso file to the disc. DO NOT burn the *.iso file normally or it will become a normal data disc.
  3. Once finished, restart the computer WITH THE DISC IN THE DRIVE. If Windows loads, you will need to adjust the BIOS settings. More on that later.
  4. If the BIOS settings are correct, a menu ('GRUB') will appear with the LiveLinux logo. Using arow keys and enter key select 'LiveLinux X1 Alpha 32-bit' or similar.
  5. A console will load, typing commands in quickly. Don't worry, this is just the Linux kernel starting. When the user screen pops up, choose 'root' as the name, and 'linux' as the password. Press enter and the KDE workspace will load. Have a play around for a while, then if you want click 'Live Installer' and follow the steps to create a partition and install the OS.
  6. Now everytime the computer starts the 'GRUB' menu will pop up.

Change the BIOS settings:

  1. When the motherboard logo appears, press Delete to enter the BIOS.
  2. Using arrow keys and enter key select 'Advanced BIOS settings'.
  3. Change 'Primary boot device' to 'CDROM' or 'DVDROM' etc.
  4. Change 'Secondary boot device' to 'HDD1', this is where your current OS is (Windows or Linux).
  5. Choose 'Save and exit' from the main menu. When the prompt asking to save and exit, press 'y' then press enter.

Hopefully that will help. Enjoy the Alpha!
